reindeer facts

So, Anniston had her second RSV shot today...not as cheerful of an event as her first one, but not bad all the same.  Because she has still been gaining weight pretty well, she moved up to a larger dosage that included TWO shots instead of one.  Double the joy.  One aspect of these precautionary trips to the doctor's office that I do enjoy (and might have already revealed) is that I get to see how much Anniston weighs.  Much more effective than the holding-her-on-the-home-scale-thing, by the way.

Drumroll....she weighs 14lb 13oz!!  She has gained over a pound in less than a month!  Confirmations are nice, and this was ours.  God knew we needed to be reminded that her heart is well, that He has healed her entire body, and that she is growing like a weed (for her)!  Thank you, Lord.  Thank you.

I do hope Christmas was (and everyday from now on is) filled with relaxation, cozy family time, and reflection on our gracious Savior.

Christmas pictures will be posted soon, but for now:

I'm pretty sure Santa forgot one of his reindeer!

I think we'll keep her :).

it's the "little" things

Psalm 107:1  "Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!  His mercy endures forever."

I just wanted to do a quick post about Anniston's progress because I don't want to forget where she has come from.  She has been completely herself since a few days after we returned home from the hospital in October except that her right arm and especially her fingers were a little weak.  For several weeks in the beginning, she would keep her right arm stiff (locked at the elbow but moving at her shoulder), and her hand was more often than not in a fist.  Well, since then, the Lord has done some amazing things in her arm, and I just want to thank Him!  She has been relaxing her hand SO much more and bending her arm at the elbow.  AND, a little over a week ago, she grabbed one of her toys and started reaching for her bowl as I was feeding her!

Anniston still hasn't rolled over very much at all (was weak because of her heart before her cath and then after the cath was weak because of the stroke), and I can let it get to me sometimes, but God has continued to humble me and teach me that I need to be thankful even for the little things.  It's amazing what happens when I take my eyes off of the negative (not that it was even that bad, but I made it that way) and look at the positive...I can see Him doing SO much!

Just the other day, I saw Anniston fully extend her right arm during tummy time, and today, she grabbed my shirt with her right hand!  And, as I am writing this, I see Anniston touching her left cheek with her right hand while sleeping.  That's a first!  She is just the most precious gift, and I am more than grateful to our Heavenly Father for this lesson in slowing down to enjoy blessings that we might have otherwise taken for granted.

Love you guys and hope you're having a wonderful Christmas week!!

here's the tour

Christmas Tour of Homes with The Nester

For the last few years, I have chosen to go with a more natural theme (gold, brown, green, twigs, leaves, etc...) for my Christmas decorations, and I'm really enjoying the neutral tones.  Staying pretty minimal while incorporating texture was my goal this year since I'm in love with a "cottage-y" (word? no.) sort of look...not that I have attained that appearance by any means.

Look at me!  I've just started telling you about our decorations, and I'm already bored with myself!  I always say that my favorite colors are brown and cream, and you've probably already figured that out if you've ever seen pictures of our house or my clothes.  I want to branch out; I really do.  Hey, at least our back door has a little bit of red...

Staying true to my plain self, I do have a soft-spot in my heart for our tree skirt.  Burlap from Hobby Lobby two years ago...I think it was 10 yards, and I'm pretty sure I spent $17 with my 40% off coupon :).

P.S.:  This year, we found out what happens when some of the lights go out on your lovely, affordable pre-lit tree.  Tried to unsuccessfully mend the situation.  Don't look too close.

Our "topper"

Still looking for the perfect stocking for Anniston...

Told you I like burlap!  It makes my heart go pitter patter.

Here it is, folks!  Me branching out!

The End!
Go check out The Nester's Blog to look at more Christmas glitz!

snow day

So, when we moved to South Mississippi, we were told that it snows once every, say, fifteen years, but Stan and I have lived in this place not terribly far from the coast for nearly three years now, and it has snowed every winter we've been here!  We're not complaining, though, because we both LOVE snow!  Stan the weatherman (will have to have a well-deserved post of its own to explain the weatherman thing) knew the snow was coming for several days, so he was standing with his nose to the window waiting for the sky to fall out, and FALL OUT it did!

Can you tell how huge the flakes were?!  Up to quarter and half dollar size!  We spent most of Friday night playing in the snow and wanted to wake Anniston so she could see it, but we knew this early December gift would be appreciated much more by a well-rested baby :).

Sooo, we waited until the next morning when she woke up, and I think she loved her first snowy weather experience!
Another bad-mom moment.  I laid out some socks (didn't have mittens) to put on her hands, and in the midst of all the layering and excitement, I forgot them!  She didn't seem to mind since we were only out for a few minutes :).

Nose turning pink signaled it's time to go back inside!

happy touring!

Christmas Tour of Homes with The Nester

Just wanted to let you guys know that The Nester is hosting a Christmas tour of homes December 14th on her blog!  If you have a blog, you are invited to write a post about your Christmas decor on that day and link it to her page.  (If you already posted about your Christmas glam, you can just link the old post!)  And, whether you have a blog or not, it's fun to simply look through everyone's homes and get ideas!  Happy touring!

six months!

Anniston is SIX months old today!  I only have a few minutes, and it is late once again, but I just wanted to document this special day.  Sad to say, I did not take a picture of her today, but I'm pretty sure I met my quota for at least a few days in the last post.

She got her first round of the RSV shot today (not too bad), so we were able to have her weighed since the dose is based on the weight of the child.  They didn't take her length, but I'm glad to know that she was exactly 13lbs 10oz on her six month birthday!

I'll have to give more details later on what she is doing right now at this half-year mark.  She really is improving every day.  Her right side is still a little weak, and to be honest, I've been battling it a good bit lately, but then I want to slap myself in the face when I realize how selfish/prideful I'm being.  I start to compare and push to rush all of the milestones, but I can see that God is wanting to teach me a lesson in patience and humility right now.  For so long, I was sustained with a grateful heart that she was alive, but I guess I have just been attacked lately with these superficial thoughts.  Why am I spilling all of this??  I guess it's just been on my heart, and it's good to share my struggles.  Sometimes online, I think it's easy to paint a picture close to perfection, so in case you haven't already figured it out by now, I am FAR from perfect.  I know that the Devil has been trying to steal my joy since Anniston is doing so well, but with the power of Jesus Christ, I am NOT going to let him!  Enough of that...

I am blessed beyond measure with the most beautiful little girl who, as she rests her head on my shoulder at night, will babble her sweet, soft little girl talk into my ear while licking my neck (might sound strange, but sweet to me) to wind down for a good night's sleep.  My heart is full, and yes, I am blessed indeed!  Oh, how grateful I am for the last six months and the many months and years ahead!

Happy six months baby girl!

a tale of two thanksgivings

We had the best Thanksgiving...twice!  First, Stan, Anniston and I made our way to Janjan and Pops's house.  We celebrated Thanksgiving on a day that was not Thanksgiving, and with that being my first time to celebrate a holiday on a day that was not the actual "day", I was skeptical whether or not the "day" on a different day would feel quite the same.  But, to my surprise, it totally did!  Why have I never had this privilege before?!  Two Thanksgiving spreads on two different days that felt exactly like Thanksgiving each time!, no?!  And now for an assortment of pics from the holiday(s):

Relaxing with Pops.

Hanging out with Janjan.  I'm looking at this picture and feeling like a bad mom since my little girl does not have anything on her legs late in November :(.  But, in my defense, it was warm, and she did have leggings on earlier in the day :).

Two men and a baby.  Stan's sweet Granddad pictured left.

Here's what the men did while us gals sat by the cozy fire drinking our coffee and filing our nails.

And, the after-hunt cuddle is always sweet :).

Another cute one of Janjan and Anniston!

Then, we headed to my parents' house to celebrate Thanksgiving on the day that everyone else does (unless you're like us this year) and had a grand time there as well!

Anniston getting some loving from GG, Grandpa, and Uncle Matt.

Then Grandmary got her fill!  I don't think Anniston objected, do you?

We have seen the cutest tickle-fits from Anniston lately where she just comes out of nowhere with the most precious little succession of laughs.  A blurry picture follows, but I just had to share because, of course, I think she's pretty cute.  AND, you can actually see her neck underneath all of those cheeks!  Anniston, if you're reading this someday when you're a teenager:  please don't hate me.  I love you.

Anniston's first visit to the Christmas tree farm!  This is a tradition that I hope my parents will continue...I can just imagine what a blast it will be when our little girl is darting around in search of her favorite tree!

GG and Anniston soaking up the shade.

I never realized just how much Matthew would love Anniston...he's such a sweet, caring uncle.

Another tickle-fit with GG and Grandpa!

Well, there you have it.  Thanks to the fams for a wonderful time!

As if this post isn't long enough, I guess I'll throw in another pic for good measure.

The End!

P.S.:  Pardon my rambling and the fact that I made one long post when I could have done several little ones.  It's late, and I'm tired.  But, I do love whoever is taking much of their sweet time to sort through such a random, circular grouping of pictures and words.  Or, I guess I should say:  Love you GG and Janjan :).
