no pride here

Being a parent is humbling...can I get an amen??

Anniston had some trouble with reflux/spitting up until she was about 5 or 6 months old and basically has not spit up since...UNTIL YESTERDAY.  We have been giving her a little bit of formula lately, and apparently the kind we tried out last night was not a keeper because she immediately gagged (because of the taste, I am assuming) and spewed her entire dinner all over herself and my lap, and it was like nothing I have ever seen...will spare you the details.

No, it did not take place among the many hours I entertain her at home by myself, or even when it was just me and the handsome hubs with her at the end of the day.

Nope.  It was when we had company.  Of course.

Since last night, she has wanted barely ANY milk in ANY form...smart girl.  Can't say I blame her.

She has also been acting different lately, and I cannot quite put my finger on what is up.  I really think she's fine, just a little unsettled.  Could be a tooth, but then again, we have been thinking surely one was making its appearance for MONTHS, and her gums have yet to unveil anything that even remotely resembles one.

And, it could be the type of formula we've been trying out...most likely, I presume.

God knew what He was doing when He made babies unable to speak perfect English from birth.
If she would have just told me "mommy, that brand of formula smells funny, and I do not want to try it" or "mommy, I have an eyelash in my eye, and that's why I'm acting different", grief would have been avoided.  (Which, if it were an eyelash, I suppose she would be rubbing her eyes, but you get what I'm saying.)

Humbling, I tell you...

But, oh so worth it, as always :).

(**And, a Happy Birthday to my most amazing sister-in-law, Meg!!!**)

life through my phone...

The good ole computer is remarkably s.l.o.w. right now (hence, uploading pictures tends to be a bit of a pain), so I am going to have to resort to sharing our lives as of late through a random assortment of images from my cell phone, most of Anniston of course.

Went to the pool the other day and took a swing afterward.  She refuses to look up and will only smile and gaze at her feet and grass through the leg holes.  The wind in her face also makes her smile and bat her eyes :).

LOVES storytime.

See?!

In her pretty pj's from Stan's Aunt Pat.  She makes Anniston the cutest things!!

Trying to eat the grass, but she mainly likes to thread it through her fingers :).

BIG smile!  Too funny...she used to play with her toys on her carseat, but lately, she has ONLY wanted to hold on to this little pink bug.  She will NOT let go as long as she is in her seat.  I look back in the mirror, and all I see is this cute, pudgy hand holding onto those little bug legs for dear life.

Sooo blurry, but this is Tony Dungy speaking at a banquet Stan and I went to at our church.  It was great!  And, this was the very first night that Anniston had a REAL babysitter besides family!  THANK YOU, Chloe!!

Sitting so well and using her right arm to balance!

Elvis lips.

Kenny Chesney look-alike.  (didn't buy hat...just tried it on in store:))

Purse Stan gave me for my birthday...I LOVE it!  It's really pink and not orange, as the picture might suggest.

Cake my parents brought me along with a Johnny's Pizza!!  If you have never heard of or had Johnny's, I won't even try to explain because I can't.

GG with Anniston!

Tired girl didn't get a very good nap this afternoon :(.

gracyn's story

After receiving the diagnosis last year that Anniston had a heart defect, I was introduced to the song, "Healer", and listened to it nearly EVERY day until she was born.

THEN, when we were in the hospital in June with our sweet, newborn baby, I was e-mailed this touching video of a precious little girl who had received a heart transplant two months before singing that very song to her church.

It. blessed. me.

I know the Lord sent this testimony to us at an appointed time in our journey, a time when encouragement was most needed.  Gracyn's story has affirmed me immensely since that day...  It felt like a promise that Anniston would be in Gracyn's shoes one day, sharing her story with a similar boldness.

As far as I know, Gracyn is doing absolutely wonderful now, but I just have not been able to get her out of my mind so I thought I'd share her video and ask you to say a prayer for her to have continued health!  This video has graced many a computer screen via facebook, but just in case you haven't heard it yet, I'd encourage you to take a few minutes to listen.  I bet it will bless you, too :).

To read more of Gracyn's story, you can visit her page here.

Oh, and thanks for the baby floatie ideas!

water baby

Anniston seems to really LOVE the water, which makes her mama oh so proud!  In the spirit of these clear, beautiful, southern sunshiny days we've been having, I just ordered this "pool" for her off of Amazon!  There were zero reviews, and I'm a big review person:  the more the better.  But, it was only $17, appears to be entertaining and safe, and seems fairly easy to set up/maintain.  SO, I will let you know what we think of it as soon as it arrives!

Also, I'm looking for a baby float for her to use in a regular swimming pool (preferably with a canapy/shade), and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions??

Yay for warmer weather!!

a little happy

So, I'm on the brighter side of a few down days.  I think it may have something to do with the anniversary of certain events approaching...  Memories have been triggered, and I have been weak.  I feel completely selfish for having those thoughts/feelings since I am super blessed with a healthy, strong, beautiful baby, but those have been my mullings just the same.  Obviously it has been the enemy, but I hate to even say that because I do not want to give him one iota of credit.  My God is faithful and loving, and He deserves more praise than I could EVER offer.

Despite the fact that I have been a big, pouty baby lately, He, in his infinite mercy, lifted my spirits.

I know this may sound silly, but in the middle of my all-out pity party, I became the winner of an amazing giveaway!  Even though I am absolutely smitten with the necklace I won, my renewed joy had more to do with the fact that I could feel the Lord lifting my chin and saying "I am here.  I see you.  You are fine.  Now, here's a little happy to remind you."

I have NOTHING to be sad about.  For some reason, I allowed those thoughts to simmer, and I just became a mess.  That was NOT my God!  He is the one who holds me and reminds me of ALL that He has done.  He is the one who points at my little girl and says:  "See?"

Get over yourself, lindsey.

Okay, I'm done.

Now, on to the necklace!  I have been drooling over Lisa Leonard's jewelry for some time now, and I NEVER thought I would EVER win one of her pieces...much less my favorite!!!

My sweet friend, Katie (who has such a fun blog...check her out!), informed me of the giveaway at another awesome site, Somewhat Simple.  And, I won!!  Still can't believe it.

Here it is in all it's glory:

family crest necklace

Impressive, no?  It's the family crest necklace, so mine will have an "M".  Seriously, go look at Lisa's work.  Now, please.

And, I heard you, God.  Thank you :).

nautical shower - sailor seth

Recently, I helped (with my sweet pal, Christina!) give a shower for our dear friend, Kristen!  Doesn't she look awesome?!!  Her precious little Seth is due in a month, and I cannot wait to meet him.  Kristen and I were roommates our senior year in college, and I can say firsthand that she is one amazing, loving lady who will make a fantastic mom...and her husband, daddy Seth, is pretty cool, too :).

Since baby Seth's room is decorated ever so cutely in a nautical theme, Christina and I decided to use that idea as the basis for the shower.  And oh my goodness, if I ever have a boy, this WILL be the theme for his room, too!  The possibilities are endless!

I will give a few extra details about the shower in case there is a future nautical shower/party to come for any of you...

Our amazingly talented friend, Chelsi, designed these invitations, and I absolutely LOVED them.  She added clever lines such as "join us as we drench the parents with gifts", "the party will set sail at ...", and "captains of this voyage are Christina and Lindsey."  Adorable, I tell you!

Flags were cheap and easy to make with lollipop sticks and craft paper.  Wishing I had done a better job with the food signs...shouldn't be see-through.

Anchor and sailboat sugar cookies.

"Batten down the quiches!"  These quiches from Sam's were delicious!  I think they came in a box in the frozen food section??

Food table set up.  Tablecloth from TJ Maxx with strip of burlap on top (already had these).

Anchor sign was made with the same scrapbook paper as the cupcake flags...  Christina made the BEST coffee punch (decaf) that we named "Pirate's Potion".

You can buy these stickers from Office Depot, 300 for $13!  I have used them for my mom's birthday party, and I plan to use them for Anniston's with several left over, I'm sure.  $13 well spent!

Game time!  Christina came up with the cutest game where everyone split up into two groups and cut features from magazines to create a picture of what they thought little Seth would look like.  I wish I had a picture of the finished products...they were really good and oh so hilarious!  And, of course, the winning team won a bag of lifesavers.  (Banner made with scrapbook paper as well.)

Christina found some small, wooden wheels and anchors at Michaels craft store that we used as decorations for the banner and a necklace for Kristen.  Super adorable!

Good friends, good times.  I LOVE these girls and miss them more than I can say!

easter

A wonderful Easter was had in our family, as I hope it was for you.  This was our time spent with loved ones, not at all in chronological order:

I do pray that the meaning of this holiday hit home, and continues to do so, for us all!

If the spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
Romans 8:11
